The Fiat 500A had a 569 cc, side-valve engine with a power output of 13 HP at 4000 rpm.

Due to its small size and gray color, it earned the nickname “topolino” (mouse). The vehicle weighed less than 400 kilograms and reached a top speed of approximately 85 km/h. Before the war, the 500 was licensed to the French company Simca as the Simca Fiat 5, and to the German company NSU. It was also assembled at Austro-Fiat plants, with a short production run at the Polish PZInż plant. In addition to the standard coupé body, the Dresden-based Glaeser company produced two cabriolet body variants, while Weinsberg produced a small number of stylish spider bodies.

Three basic versions of the Topolino were offered during production:

Fiat 500A – from 1936 to 1948, with a break for the final period of the war and post-war reconstruction (in 1944, the Fiat Group’s plants were bombed by the Allies),
Fiat 500B – from 1948 to 1949,
Fiat 500C – from 1949 to 1955.
